Borrowing Materials

Almost all our materials check out for two weeks. At checkout the patron receives a printout which lists each borrowed item and the due date. Reference items cannot be checked out. Patrons must present their PINES card to check out items.

Renewals

If a book, video, DVD, or CD checks out for two weeks, it can be renewed for two more weeks. Most materials may be renewed for two checkout periods. Materials may be renewed over the phone, with your library card number, by calling during library hours. If a hold has been placed on an item, it cannot be renewed.

To renew online go to our web site at:

http://pines.public.lib.ga.us

Click on enter. Enter your library card number (14 digit #). then enter your pin #. Click on renew materials. If you have already renewed twice or if there is a hold on the item, you will not be allowed to renew.

Fines and Fees

The overdue fine for materials is 10 cents per day per item. The library gives a one day grace period for overdue materials.

If a book is lost, replacement fees are assessed. Replacement costs include the price of the book, a $4.00 processing fee, and any accrued fines.

Holds

A patron can place a hold for an item that is currently checked out. The exceptions are audio books, videos, DVDs, CDs and recently added titles such as bestsellers which may be held only if in the Fayette County Library collection.

The PINES System will keep the hold request until the item arrives. Library staff will then call the patron to alert them that the itemS is being held for them.

Internet Use

The Fayette County Public Library's Internet access service is affiliated with the Flint River Regional Library System. In attempting to offer the citizens of Fayette county the most flexible and useful access to information we are pleased to be able to offer free internet access.

In doing so, we would like to remind users that not all sources on the Internet provide information which is accurate, complete, current, or appropriate. Users should evaluate Internet sources just as they do printed publications.

Look critically at the validity and accuracy of the information retrieved from Internet sites. Furthermore, while the Internet offers global information access, some information is still found more quickly and efficiently in print sources in the library.

The following policies apply for internet access provided by the library:

  • Priority for use of Internet computers will be given to educational and research applications.
  • No Chat rooms.
  • No games allowed. This rule is intended to protect the integrity of the network from unauthorized downloads and to keep focus on educational and research Internet applications in the library.
  • Use by commercial companies is prohibited.
  • Users have a time limit of one hour per session for a maximum of three sessions per day. This limit exists to allow all patrons an opportunity to use the Internet.
